In order to avoid getting wet, I quickly boarded the second bus to Gathhaghar. This bus was not as crowed as the previous one. As the bus progressed, some more passengers joined in. It was quite dark. I requested the conductor to stop the bus near the traffic lights at Gathhagar but he declined my request sarcastically. After some time, the conductor shouted “Gatthaghar! Gatthaghar!” I got off from the bus. It was still raining lightly but I had no time to waste. I hastened my way to my room.
I reached my room at about quarter past seven. Then I quickly prepared my meal, ate, cleaned the pots and the pans and slept.
When I woke up this morning, to my dismay, it was really raining and not just drizzling. I still had not bought an umbrella. Last time when I vaguely mentioned to my friend, Pranij, that I might need an umbrella, he told me that the rainy season was quite over. And I had complied. That was a mistake.
It was still raining when I was ready to start my journey back to the office. I used a towel to keep myself as dry as I could. Luckily, on my way, I found a shop selling umbrellas. There were not many umbrellas to choose from but I then I had no choice. It cost me Rs 150. But then, I am not a good bargainer.
That’s the story of my umbrella, and, if anyone of you think that the rainy season is over, think again. You might say that it is all due to global warming. But that is a whole another story!
